Settings...

Post by Alby on Thu Sep 11, 2014 10:47 pm

Hi guys,
As you know I'm still working through stuff with my baby...
But I want to throw questions out there to get yálls opinions .... so please bear with me and excuse my dumbness.
Settings... I'm getting some ok ... only some....

Scenario: Morning view, sunny, my shoot into sun then change angles to get a clearer shot. Then mid afternoon hazy but bright.
it is a large flock of birds on a river near to where it meets the ocean. these are fast moving birds... possibly Sheerwaters ...flying close to the water as a group will dive into the water creating a fantastic spectacle.... I'd be approx 40 to 50 yards away. This is what I saw crossing a bridge on my way to and from work today.
All I was thinking about was the set up.

Guys.... give me your thoughts... ISO / possible app / and speed.... Anything you might think of...ie lens etc.

Mine is a Nikon 5200, lenses: 35mm , 18-55 and 55-300

Can't pan as it could ruin the background....

Have a go and let me know and I'll try it ... if they are still there in the morning

thanks,

AL

Hey Al... should be a meter on that camera, set your shutter to at least 1/1000 and Aperture to F8... adjust your ISO for good exposure at that light. You want to make sure your meter will let you do 1/1000. Should be some tips on line for shooting birds in flight. Guessing you will be shooting with your long lens at around 200-300mm.
