What OS do you use?

Post by zebadee on Thu May 03, 2012 10:33 am

Hi Smile
With MS already trying to push the idea of Windows 8.
I just wonder, how many of us follow the latest versions.
Perhaps you've opted out of MS OS.
If so what have you migrated to?

Home use for me is like this: Windows 7 (various PC's/Laptops) 60%, Mac OS X 30%, Ubuntu 10%.

At work, still using Windows XP (laptop), FreeBSD (servers), Windows 2003/2008 servers, Mac OS X, OS/390 (mainframe).

Nothing wrong with XP..

I'm using W7 Home, in answer to the Question.. don't really like it, especially the live mail.

Hi Smile
I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit for over 80% of the time.
opneSUSE about 15% & unbuntu the rest.
I think it unlikely that I'll bother with Windows 8 (having tried the beta).

There is nothing wrong with using XP as it was and still is a rock solid offering from Microsoft. Just look at the millions around the world who still use it including many businesses.

I have always been an early beta user of the newest offerings from Microsoft. I am possibly the only person in the world who used and had no problems with Me, but that is another topic.

I have been using Win 7 since first available as a beta and love it!

I have and see no use in windows 8. From what i have seen the main feature is touch screen usability. So for handheld devices it may fly but for home use I feel it will be a dud for Microsoft.

I now run 7 computers here at the house and I will be damned if microsoft thinks I am going to go get 7 new touchscreen capable monitors! And who wants all the messy fingerprints all over their screen. LOL

Using Win 7 Ultimate on 4 computers and XP Pro on my wife's, (she has work related programs which will not work in Win7).

I have tried the Win 8 beta and like 4hams will stay with 7.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit for me, BUT it was a terrible wrench to leave XP, I really loved that OS.

The older machine in the garage - XP --- Just won't die !
The inside one.... Vista... can't complain. Eldest daughter Win 7,
Twins have mac notebooks(or laptops) not sure what they run.
Our work server system... not sure. It's a big beast. Needs to be I suppose. 2005 was when it was last upgraded. the separate laptops are Win7.

I have 4 builds, all with Windows 7 Pro or Ult 64 bit. I hate to admit it , like I hated to admit that SATA optical drives were better than IDE optical drives but the facts are there.

Hi Smile
Congrats.... thumbsup
I like it too!

Though I shall almost certainly be Windows 8 (probably by the weekend).
Am currently dual booting between 7 & 8.
Windows 8 grows on you.
Especially if using Windows phones.
Would only consider returning to andriod if Windows stopped supporting mobiles now.

Interesting to note (for me at least).
A shift in my opinions with regards to Windows 8.
Just see earlier post.

That's not a bad looking case, but my next build I am going to go smaller form factor. No idea when that will be as my i7 Sandy Bridge is suiting me just fine for the foreseeable future.

Back to the OS subject though... who is going to give Window 8 a go? Anyone???

Still running Vista on desktop.

Wouldn't know any difference or benefits...

The missus has 7 on her laptop.

What are the pros and cons of 8 ?

So far, I see no pros... But I am curious to hear Zebs take on it... I may pick up an OEM copy and run it in a VM. I just think a desktop computer still has life.

Hi Smile
Firstly you have an option for "Desktop".
It loads even quicker than any other MS OS.

Has IE 10......
